Currently over 2,500 FACTS qualified advisers provide crucial crop nutrition advice to farmers up and down the UK and keen to join them is Edward Pritchard of Woodhall Spa.
Edward, a bright and enthusiastic graduate works closely with his father on the family farm, Redhouse Farm at Waddingworth Farming and sees first-hand the difference great crop nutrition advice can make.
When Woldmarsh and CF Fertilisers offered support for further education by way of a sponsored FACTS qualification, Edward was keen to apply with a compelling statement on why he felt he was the right person for the award.
All applications were duly processed with the shortlisted candidates attending an interview with Dave Towse of CF and Heather Claridge of Woldmarsh. Edward was delighted to be selected as the successful candidate.
He explains what this support means to him “The FACTS qualification will greatly improve my knowledge of crop production, the principles and practice of crop nutrition, fertiliser recommendations and nutrient planning. This along with my existing practical farming experience will enable me to fully understand the role of fertilisers in the production of food, and to make recommendations that are agronomically, economically and environmentally sound”.
The hunt for the right candidate to win the supported FACTS qualification started at the end of 2015 when both CF & Woldmarsh wanted to share some of the success and celebrations following 50 years of CF’s most popular fertiliser product Nitram.
Sam Bell, Commercial Marketing Manager for CF Fertilisers says “Using a quality fertiliser like Nitram at the correct rate and timing can make all the difference to reaping a quality crop with a good return on investment. Understanding the agronomy and crop need is vital; this knowledge will help Edward in his future career.”
Sam goes on to say that “supporting the next generation with new knowledge and helping them to develop further is a great idea and we are pleased to be working alongside Woldmarsh on this initiative ”
Heather Claridge, Fertilizer Manager for Woldmarsh adds “Members have been pleased that Woldmarsh and CF have put together this initiative supporting the next generation. I am delighted to say that CF have offered to support this again for 2017 and we will be announcing details in the near future”
